Winter Tidings

I get restless when I am in one place for too long, so it was a perfect change of scenery to spend the winter in Europe. It´s always nice to get a breath of fresh air and inspiration before you go back to where you are living, so we used our time for project meetings, seeing our families and dear friends and eating heaps of food that we can´t get in Ghana.

It was amazing to see our families, who are spread quite far across, so we ended up driving about 6000 km within five weeks, but it was worth it!
I am used to only seeing my dad and sister every half a year since I have always lived in different countries but that makes it even more special when I do get to see them.

We spent the 24th with Jack´s family in the south and the 25th with my family in Berlin. We were overwhelmed with love and gifts, even some big ones by strangers who wanted to support The Sun´s Harvest, good food and felt so welcomed by many big hearts.

On New Year´s we flew to London to spend the evening with one of my dearest friends at a really sweet and cozy 16th century house with many fireplaces, apparently some ghosts and a lovely garden with a bonfire.

We stayed there for two days and then made a quick journey to Wales. Back to London where we spent time with some more friends from Spain, Holland/Indonesia and Germany whom I used to live with at the school we all went to in England. They are family and I feel sad not seeing them again for a while but I´m happy to know they are well and know that we won´t loose touch.

Back in Germany we had another meeting about our project, saw our siblings and parents, hugged until our bones ached and then jumped on a plane back home to Ghana.

At the airport we we´re told to return to Germany since Jack didn´t have his vaccination document, but after a lot of persuasion and a threat that I would cry they let us pass only to get stopped again at customs where they inspected our many bags filled with hundreds of seeds, a pizza oven and machines for the institute. Luckily they had a sense of humour and were ready to be bribed with chocolate.

It feels so nice to be back, to smell the salt of the sea in the air and to walk around barefeet again. It took us about 12 seconds to devour the first mango! Each their own of course! No sharing or consideration when it comes to mangos!!

We have been welcomed back by friends and are excited to work on the land!!!
